According to news reports, the victim was thrown from his vehicle even though he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
January 11, 2019 – 3:45 pm: The 28-year-old William Randall Webb was killed in a 3-vehicle accident that took place in Abilene on Friday afternoon.
The crash took place on eastbound Interstate 20, near West Lake Road in Abilene.
Webb was driving a white 2009 Ford F-250 westbound on I-20, when for unknown reasons he crossed the median, went over a barrier, and entered oncoming traffic. He was hit by a silver 2006 Dodge Caravan and a red 18-wheeler.
Even though he was wearing his seat belt, Webb was ejected from his vehicle due to the severity of the crash.
Initial police reports incorrectly indicated that the driver of the minivan had been charged with DUI as a result of the crash. This was not the case.
I-20 was closed for about two hours after the accident. This was reportedly the first fatal crash of 2019 that has taken place in Abilene.
Webb’s memorial service will take place on Wednesday, January 16. According to the Tye Police Department, Webb “had a heart as big as Texas.”
