January 15, 2019 – 11:45 pm: Flavio Zapata, a 31-year-old truck driver from Laredo, was killed in a crash that took place in Crockett County in West Texas on Tuesday night.

The accident took place at the intersection of Texas 137 and US 190. Zapata was driving along 137 in a 2000 International 18-wheeler when he came to the intersection and began to make a left turn onto 190 without stopping for the stop sign.

Both vehicles caught fire after the accident. Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived on the scene and Zapata was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The driver of the Peterbilt, whose identity has not been made public at this time, received minor injuries in the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which is still under investigation by DPS at this time.
