News reports state that Highway 225 was down to one lane in the aftermath of the accident.

August 16, 2018 – 5:30 am: An 18-wheeler crashed early Thursday morning, leading to one death and lane closures on westbound Highway 225 in southeast Houston.

The accident took place early Thursday morning when the truck released hazardous material and caught fire. The crash took place between Scarborough and Allen Genoa Road.

The Houston Police Department is still investigating the truck accident to determine what went wrong. No other vehicles are known to have been involved at this time.

By Thursday morning, Highway 225 was up to two lanes, although the third lane remained closed while hazmat control was being undertaken and the causes of the accident were studied.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Similar fires have been caused by fuel leaks, lightning strikes, and even loose mattresses in the middle of the roadway. Early this May, a mattress in the middle of I-45 North here in Houston caused a big rig to catch fire and back up traffic for two hours.

The police have not yet released the name of the accident’s victim.
