Man Charged with Felony Murder After Alleged Drunk Driving Crash

According to news reports, Ronnie Allen Isbel has been found guilty of driving while intoxicated twice before.

 

January 10, 2019 – 10:25 am: Robert Newton was killed on Thursday morning after a hit-and-run accident in which Ronnie Allen Isbel, 51, allegedly hit him and left the scene. Isbel has been charged with murder for this drunk driving accident.

According to news reports, the accident took place on the 1000 block of Freeport Street, near Bandera. Isbel reportedly ran a stop sign and hit Newton, who was crossing the street at a crosswalk.

A witness who later identified Isbel said that he drove his Jeep Grand Cherokee away from the scene, intentionally and with awareness of the accident. Deputies of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office later found Isbel and took him back to the scene of the accident.

Newton was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.

Isbel has been charged with murder, as well as with failure to stop and render aid involving death. He is being held on $175,000 bond for these charges.

Isbel has been convicted with DWI at least two times before, once in 1986 and once in 2000. This accident is still under investigation at the present time.
