October 22, 2018 – 2:15 pm: Esmon Rushing Jr., 57, of Broaddus, was injured in an accident where his 2009 Chevrolet pickup hit a 2005 International semi truck head-on.
The accident took place on State Highway 105 in Hardin County, near Old Sour Lake Road.
For unknown reasons, Rushing’s vehicle crossed the center line while he was headed eastbound on SH 105. He hit the truck after crossing into the other lane. According to a press release from DPS, “The impact of the collision caused the Chevrolet to spin into the ditch.”
Rushing was airlifted to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler, an unidentified 37-year-old man from Houston, was not injured in the accident.
There were a total of 36,635 crashes involving commercial motor vehicles in Texas in 2017. Crashes involving tractor trailers are more likely than others to involve serious injuries or fatalities, due to the size of the vehicles involved.
Investigators still do not know why Rushing crossed the line into the oncoming truck. The accident is still currently under investigation.
