Consumers with small children need to be aware of more than just choking and suffocation hazards associated with infant cribs. On September 8, 2015, IKEA issued a recall for a crib mattress that risks a fire hazard which could cause a burn injury. Consumers who have purchased the VYSSA SPELEVINK crib mattress should return it to an IKEA store. The store will issue a full refund.
IKEA has cited non-compliance with the federal open flame standard for mattresses as the reason for the recall. If you think you may have purchased this mattress, there are some distinct identifying factors. The mattress measures 52 inches long by 27 ½ inches wide. It is white with blue trim. The label attached to the mattress has “VYSSA SPELEVINK” on it.
Earlier in the year, on January 13, 2015, IKEA recalled other VYSSA crib mattresses due to the risk of entrapment. This recall applies to VYSSA crib mattresses manufactured on May 4, 2014, or earlier. This information is also on the mattress label, which includes the date of manufacture and model.
On April 30, 2015, IKEA expanded the recall to include five VYSSA crib mattresses and four SULTAN crib mattresses. The VYSSA models include the VYSSA VACKERT, VYSSA VINKA, VYSSA SPELEVINK, VYSSA SLOA, and VYSSA SLUMMER. The SULTAN models include the SULTAN BLUNDA, SULTAN DROMMA, SULTAN SNARKA, and SULTAN SUSSA. This recall also applies to these models manufactured on May 4, 2014, or earlier.
