Woman Killed After Being Hit by SUV in Corpus Christi

According to news reports, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit while crossing the freeway.

 

December 6, 2018 – 6:29 pm: The 70-year-old Maria Medina died Thursday evening after being hit by an SUV while crossing the highway in Corpus Christi.

The accident took place on Highway 286, where the woman had gotten out of her car and crossed the highway. At the time she was hit, she was running across from the right lanes to the left shoulder of the highway, where her vehicle was parked.

The collision took place on the northbound lanes of the highway while the woman was running back in the direction of her van.

The 16-year-old driver of the SUV that hit the woman remained on the scene until police arrived. Medina was pronounced dead at the scene once investigators arrived.

It is currently unknown why the woman’s vehicle was stopped on the shoulder of the highway, nor do investigators know why she was crossing the freeway.

Traffic in the area was limited to one lane and being funneled onto State Highway 358 while investigators went over the area. The crash is still currently under investigation.
