December 2, 2018 – 3:10 pm: The unidentified driver of a tractor-trailer that overturned on Sunday afternoon has been hospitalized after the accident. The extent of the driver’s injuries has not been made public at this time.
The accident took place on the East Freeway at the San Jacinto River, where for unknown reasons the tractor-trailer flipped over just after three o’clock on Sunday afternoon.
The tractor-trailer caught fire after flipping, but Houston firefighters were able to put out the flames in short order.
The westbound lanes of the East Freeway were shut down for more than eight hours after the crash. According to a tweet from Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the lanes were expected to reopen around 8:00 PM, but in fact, the road was not cleared until 11:28 PM on Sunday night.
The identity and injuries of the driver involved in the crash have not been made public at this time. The cause of the crash is still unknown, and officers of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the accident at the present time.
