Three People Injured in Crash After Police Chase

According to reports, the vehicle was going in excess of 100 mph at the time of the crash.

May 17, 2019 – 5:00 am: Three people were injured in a crash that took place in Early, Texas on Friday morning. The crash took place after a police chase, beginning in Winters and ending in Early, in which the vehicle in pursuit reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

The crash took place in the 100 block of Early Boulevard, where police had set up spike strips to stop the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, entering at over 100 mph, swerved to avoid the spikes, losing control of the vehicle in the 200 block of East Boulevard. It hit street signs and landscaping, finally crashing into
a gas meter and causing a “fireball explosion.”

Three people were removed from the vehicle while it was on fire, two of them with non-incapacitating injuries. The third, having been unrestrained in the vehicle, was more seriously injured and was taken to another hospital.

Police report finding a meth pipe and bath salts inside the vehicle. Additionally, a Brown County Sheriff’s Office vehicle hit a sign during the chase, however the officer was not hurt nor was the vehicle badly damaged.

Winters Police and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate this case. At this time, it is unclear what charges will be filed in connection with the event. Two people were arrested, although none of those involved has been publicly identified at this time.
