According to news reports, the driver was trapped in his burning truck, but police saved him before it was too late.
December 4, 2018 – 10:00 am: An unidentified pickup truck driver was rescued from a fiery wreck after hitting the rear end of an 18-wheeler in Kaufman County on Tuesday morning. The driver is now hospitalized with a serious leg injury.
The accident took place on Interstate 20, near Terrell. The driver of a gray pickup hit the back of a semi-truck, at which time flames broke out in the vehicle.
The driver was pinned, and flames were spreading when police arrived on the scene. Deputy Conner Martin and a handful of others were able to free the driver from the vehicle before the flames were able to cause serious injury.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department congratulated Deputy Martin in a statement released on the Department’s Facebook page: “Kaufman County is fortunate to have Deputy Martin serving this community. He has proven he has the heart of a servant and the bravery of a lion; we couldn’t be any more proud that he is a Kaufman County Deputy Sheriff!”
The cause of the accident is currently unknown, and the event is under investigation.
