One Man Killed in Rollover Accident in Camp County

December 6, 2018

According to news reports, the single-vehicle accident resulted from the driver’s inability to complete a curve on the highway, leading the vehicle to drift off the road.

December 6, 2018 – 4:30 am: Jimmie Allen Cooper Jr., 46, from Winnsboro, was killed in a rollover crash that took place early on Thursday morning.

The accident took place in Camp County along State Highway 11, roughly five miles west of Pittsburg.

At the time of the accident, Cooper was headed westbound on SH 11. At a curve in the highway, Cooper was unable to keep his vehicle on the road. The vehicle drifted off of the north side of the highway, at which time Cooper tried to turn sharply left to get back on the road.

This sharp left turn sent the vehicle into a skid, causing it to overturn. It rolled back across the southern side of the highway, eventually coming to a rest.

Cooper was ejected from the vehicle during this time and by the time officers of the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is still under investigation. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or speeding might have played a role in this accident.
