Hereford Woman Dies in Crash

According to news reports, it appears that the woman turned in front of an oncoming big rig, leading to the accident.

 

February 8, 2019 – 4:00 pm: Laura Hernandez-Cervantes, 34, died in an accident that took place on Friday afternoon just west of Hereford. She was the only victim of the two-vehicle accident, in which her 10-year-old passenger and the other driver were uninjured.

The accident took place on U.S. 60, about 4 miles west of Hereford.

Hernandez-Cervantes was driving a 2006 Ford pickup westbound on U.S. 60, while Cary Shoults, 56, was also driving westbound. Shoults was driving a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig, and was behind Hernandez-Cervantes at the time of the accident.

According to a release from the Department of Public Safety, Hernandez-Cervantes attempted to make a turn into the median, crossing in front of the big rig and leading to the accident. Shoults hit the driver’s side of the pickup.

The report from DPS was released on Monday. The accident is still under investigation, and DPS will release any further information as it becomes available. The identity of the 10-year-old girl involved in the accident has not been made public at this time.

Investigation into this crash is still ongoing.
