October 9, 2018 – 11:40 pm: A man in Montgomery County was severely injured in a home explosion late Tuesday night.

The explosion happened at a home in the 31100 block of Timberloch Trail in Magnolia. The man, whose identity has not been released at this time, was found with second and third-degree burns covering most of his body.

Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office found out that the man was trying to decontaminate himself of bugs. He sprayed brake cleaner fluid all over his body. Later he tried to use a vacuum cleaner to remove the bugs.

The vacuum cleaner sparked and ignited the gases in the house, causing the explosion.

Deputies left the scene after noticing what looked like large batteries and wires in the home. The Montgomery Fire Marshal’s Office bomb team was called in—there were no other explosions.

Police do not know if the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time, although this is a distinct possibility. He is listed in critical condition and will be interviewed as soon as he wakes up.

The event is still under investigation.
