Calhoun County Deputy Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash

According to news reports, the deputy received injuries but is in stable condition after the accident.

 

February 8, 2019 – 5:45 am: Trenton Ballard, 29, a Calhoun county deputy, was hit and injured in an accident that took place early Friday morning while he was directing traffic. The driver who hit him fled the scene, and deputies of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office are still searching for them.

The accident took place on U.S. 35, north of Point Comfort, according to Sgt. Ruben San Miguel of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Ballard was directing traffic around the scene of an accident that had taken place around 5:00 am, when a silver Dodge Ram hit him. The driver of the pickup failed to stop after hitting Ballard, fleeing the scene.

According to San Miguel, “We are in the process of trying to locate the pickup.”

Ballard was taken to Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital by helicopter. He is currently being treated for his injuries, and Calhoun County Sheriff Bobbie Vickery reports that he is in stable condition.

The accident is still being investigated, and both the Department of Public Safety and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the driver of the pickup that hit Ballard.
