Actiq® and Fentora® Pain Drugs Linked to Overdose, Death

Actiq® and Fentora® are two highly potent drugs used to treat “breakthrough” pain (a term that describes sudden, extreme pain that “breaks through” your around-the-clock pain medication). They contain the extremely powerful narcotic fentanyl, a drug that is 100 times more powerful than morphine.

Actiq is delivered into the bloodstream by a lollipop lozenge. Fentora is a lozenge placed above a rear molar tooth between the upper cheek and gum where it is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream.

Both Actiq and Fentora are prescribed for patients who are opioid tolerant (people taking morphine or another strong painkiller for a week or longer). For patients who are not opioid-tolerant, the amount of fentanyl in Actiq or Fentora is large enough to cause dangerous side effects such as severe trouble breathing, very slow or shallow breathing, or death.

If you or someone you care about used Actiq or Fentora and died of a fentanyl overdose, call our firm immediately for a free, confidential evaluation. We want to help.
